Swiss night

Wolfie — May 30, 2003, 2:24 pm

I went to a reception at the Swiss Ambassador’s residence last night. The ambassador himself (Bruno Spinner) is quite an impressive and amiable chap though most of the rest of the guests were true to form; the politicians were opinionated and intransigent and the diplomats have no opinion on anything at all, except that they [...]

Mad world

Wolfie — May 28, 2003, 10:43 am

A mental hospital in America is desperately seeking interpreters - fluent in the STAR TREK language Klingon. The language, which was created for the cult TV series and movies, is one of about 55 needed by the office which treats mental health patients in metropolitan Multnomath County, Oregon. Jerry Jelusich, a procurement specialist for the [...]

Object of desire

One of my colleagues has just bought the new Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone. Its as compact as the T68i but has a large high-resolution screen, built-in camera and a faster processor and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one. This is the “next generation” phone that I’ve been waiting for and I’m [...]

New Movie (short review)

Wolfie — May 26, 2003, 12:28 pm

I saw “Secretary” on Saturday evening. A low budget mildly-black comedy/love story examining sado-masochistic relationships, starring James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal. I thought it tackled this subject with intelligence, sensitivity and wit without slipping into cliché or sugary mawkishness. I found it very enjoyable and entertaining, a film I would recommend.

An Englishman, A Slav, A Spaniard and an Argentinean

Wolfie — May 24, 2003, 2:06 pm

I had quite an Argentinean night last night. I went with some friends to dinner at the Gaucho Grill where we enjoyed some magnificent steak and fine wine (at that price it should be) followed by a Tango demonstration at a nearby theatre. I’ll admit that a dance demonstration wouldn’t normally be my choice of [...]

Nothing to fear but fear itself

Wolfie — May 23, 2003, 12:34 pm

So Osama the bogey-man is back in vogue. Suddenly there are terrorist attacks all over the world, they are all being carried out in his name and we should all be afraid for our lives. I can’t say I can see why. Yes these attacks have suddenly increased but where are they all happening? Saudi [...]

What to tell?

Wolfie — May 20, 2003, 10:56 am

You know it never occurred to me the predicament that having a web-log would put me in. You see I have friends and relatives who actually bother to occasionally read some of my inane thoughts. Here is the problem. I would like to make my entries more salacious and interesting but there are some things [...]

Born again teenager

Wolfie — May 18, 2003, 3:42 pm

I was at a bit of a loose end this weekend so I decided to buy the new video game “Enter the Matrix” which is closely coupled with the new Matrix movie instalment. Have to say its great fun and gets my indelible stamp of approval. If its a whole weekend and quite a few [...]

Country relatives breeze into town

Wolfie — May 12, 2003, 8:18 pm

My sister and her husband are visiting at the moment as she is exhibiting her jewellery at Earls Court this week. I went along myself on Sunday and I have to say it was mightily impressive. Both exhibition halls are filled with displays from companies selling everything from small gift ideas to designer home ornaments [...]

Mobile data hell

Wolfie — May 9, 2003, 11:19 am

I was talking with a colleague today who is having some problems setting up email and MMS services on his phone. He has the same model as I do (Sony-Ericsson T68i) and wanted to know how I had fared. I have set-up GPRS and email access with success but I will admit that it was [...]
