Mad world
A mental hospital in America is desperately seeking interpreters - fluent in the STAR TREK language Klingon. The language, which was created for the cult TV series and movies, is one of about 55 needed by the office which treats mental health patients in metropolitan Multnomath County, Oregon. Jerry Jelusich, a procurement specialist for the county Department of Human Services, says, “We have to provide information in all the languages our clients speak.”
Although created for the works of fictions, Klingon was designed to have consistent grammar, syntax and vocabulary. Now Multnomath County research has found that many people and not just fans - consider it a complete language. Franna Hathaway, the county’s purchasing administrator, explains, “There are some cases where we’ve had mental health patients where this was all they would speak.”
County officials say that obligates them to recruit a Klingon/English interpreter.
