Closer

We went out last night with some friends to see new movie “Closer” (Jude Law, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts and Natalie Portman), based on Patrick Marber’s edgy 1997 stage play. While it does have imperfections I would say that I would mark it as a “Highly recommended” reasonably complex relationship movie. The performances were strong enough with Owen leading the field on strength and Roberts straggling behind the pack. When you consider how awful most American movies of this genre are (don’t mention the “Alfie” remake) it stands out as a triumph. One to take a first date on for sure.
