Enemy at the Gates

The other night we watched the movie “Enemy at the Gates” (Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz, Ed Harris), set in war-torn Stalingrad. I would rate it as a good film and worth a watch. If that is you can get past the overwhelming “lovey-ness” of the cast which right from the outset hits you like being slapped around the face with a wet haddock. I have to say that since seeing Jude Law in “A.I.” playing an animatronic gigolo that’s what I see on screen every time he is in a movie. That role was his.

Mind you it makes a nice change to see a WW2 movie where the Americans aren’t winning it for everyone and the appalling toll that the Russians paid in defeating the Nazis is so often forgotten.
