Motion Web

Soon after getting back from Spain I booted up my PC, turned on my ADSL router and went about downloading the emails that had arrived in my absence followed by a bit of web-surfing to catch up on events. Not looking for anything in particular but merely entertaining myself for a while. After a few minutes it began to dawn on me that the whole WWW was flashing past my eyes a good bit faster than I was used to so I surfed my way over to the bt-yahoo site to check on my account status. It seemed that while I was away they had upgraded my account from a pitiful 512kb/s, that derisory UK standard many of us have had to endure for some time, to 2Mb/s at no additional cost! That’s nice of them I thought, and promptly went about downloading as much video as I could find.

2Mb/s takes you into a new realm of the moving web which was hitherto beyond practical reach.

Sites like The BBC Motion Gallery, pure eye candy - lovely.
