Security Scary
So it looks like Blair’s Police State has arrived under the guise of the war or terror? Or maybe another viewpoint (rather less dramatic) is that the Metropolitan Police force make the Keystone Cops look like a well-oiled machine when it comes to fighting the war on terror. However before you smugly whistle under your breath “that will never happen to me” take a look at this salutary tale of one man’s false arrest under the presumption that he was up to no good on the London tube network. I think the moral is that we now have to be careful how we behave in public on the streets of London and I am concerned about how extreme that may become in the future. Having been travelling a bit lately what with my honeymoon and all, I too have found myself at the receiving end of what seems to be indiscriminate and absurd security measures. It seems particularly daft as we are supposed to me looking for Muslim fanatics in the security sweep that I, as a blue-eyed, pale-skinned Englishman with a rather plumy accent should find myself singled-out by security staff for special searches on occasion. To be honest I began to suspect that some of these security staff were really just venting their own racist agenda against whitey-boys with pretty girls on their arms. I don’t like the way that all this has put unquestionable power into the hands of unqualified/inept people without proper recourse or question, I don’t like it one bit.
