Council Election Day

Purulent Politics

Its been an unusually warm day today. Naturally true to form the tube was delayed on the way home as supposedly the rails were buckling under the heat but nobody owned up to accidentally fitting chocholate rails during the refit. As I walked home from the tube station the powerful aroma of the flowering trees even masked the odour of the traffic which was a welcome break and lifted my spirits. Went to my local club for a swim and to cool off a little, it was nice to have the pool to myself and there was something quite surreal about the experience as the guard was playing The Prodigy over the sound system pretty loudly which made me swim much harder.

The election campaign, most notably from Labour has been of the usual puerile level but its been dominated by three issues :

1) Prescott’s Marital infidelity.
2) Clarke’s dangerous illegal immigrant release.
3) NHS in crisis yet Hewitt says “Best year ever”.

However everyone else on the bloggershpere has been ranting about it and I didn’t think I could add anything particularly new to the debate, there’s no “up-side” to any of it and listening to the arguments in the MSM that they should keep their jobs and put it right is just nausiating really. I find it sobering to read Rachel of North London’s forebearance and strength considering how her life has been sorely tainted by events directly related to government incompetance. There is some hope for us while there are women like her.

Update (05/05/06 14:22) : Charles Clarke (home secretary) has been fired as expected, so now just waiting for the axe to fall on “Two Shags” Prescott. Also the Conservatives have taken Hammersmith & Fulham from Labour so lets hope that they put as much effort into running the borough as they did into their campaign.

Thanks for the link to Rachel of North London’s post - to describe it as powerful would be an understatement

Flowering trees, perhaps that’s it. In Sonewhere In England Town this week I kept getting wafts of what smell like cat’s piss. Soon it will be muck spreadiing time when much of Mid Sussex smells like cow poo for weeks.

Yes, I too found Rachel’s post very moving and it stalled my rant on the government. I just didn’t feel worthy anymore.

Xogg, I think that smell comes from a flowering tree from Asia. I can’t remember its name now though. Mind you, in Sussex it could also be one of the locals.
