The Assiduous OS

That would be Linux* of course.

Tristan at ShellyTheRepublican.com explains :

“Like all the greatest American engineering, it’s an example of innovation that makes a growing group of European and Chinese hackers jealous. They hate our lead in computing technology and will stop at nothing until they have control of all of our computers.”

And continues thus :

“And guess what software Osama Bin Laden uses on his laptop?

If you guessed it was Linux you would be 100% right. Osama uses Linux because he knows designed to counterfeit DVDs, circumventing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and defraud companies like Disney.”

Of course its a wind-up, the whole site is a joke aimed at lampooning American religious republicans and their obsessive paranoia about “the left” and foreigners (whatever that means in a country built on immigration) but what really makes the post funny is the 680+ comments.

The whole site seems to be one joke rehashed again and again so it gets dull very quickly however it still seems to attract quite a large number of suckers. It would be funnier if it wasn’t so close to the truth that the bloggersphere stateside is full of sites with very similar content which are deadly serious.

I’m reminded of the fuss over Idle Worm’s 2003 classic Gulf War 2 flash presentation which caused a bit of consternation at the time, he posted some of the hate mail he received as a result which makes mind-boggling reading.

Oh I agree totally about it being a one joke site but, as you say, that’s the point isn’t it? Hoping to find a Liberal equivalent ASAP

If he did he’d be a fool as every time he connected to the internet he’d have to spend the next hour downloading security updates from Microsoft, thus running-up a massive bill on his satellite phone.

Mind you that thought’s got me wondering what he might have as his MSN messenger buddy icon…
