Ok. IE6 is now running. I still can’t figure it out. Still displaying no feeds. Sometimes, just sometimes I’d get a white page not found in the reader. I don’t know what I did to my laptop that it’s all good.

Hello,
I’ve been using this kick ass reader and it’s great. I am now experiencing the same issue as many. I cannot get feeds to load. I recently wiped out my laptop’s OS that had a working NewsJunkie in it with the same OS version XP PRO. For some reason the reader wouldn’t display feeds anymore. I’ve done alot of things and I got it to work but I do not remember what I’ve done. The major change was downgrading from IE7 to IE6. Not sure if that was the cause. I have this reader running on 3 machines. A D810 Laptop, some PC and a thinkcentre. The only difference that I could think of is that this thinkcentre is using IE7. All these machines are identical in setup. Can anyone confirm? I’m going to try to downgrade from IE7 to IE6. Thanks.

Well, I have installed this on many computers. So far it has only worked on one. It has not worked on any computer with XP pro. It did however work on a media ceneter edition Windows.

Netstat on XP pro shows the computer communication with the rss fee, but it just doesn’t display anything

I’ll be honest Eric, I am at a loss as to what your problem is. It is the install that is failing as the temporary files are not unpacking but I can’t see why. Sorry I can’t help. If you do figure out why by any chance I would be grateful if you would share.

Which OS are you using, I’m assuming you are using Xp but if its Vista its possible the extended security features are preventing the unpack. I’ve not tested it on Vista.

The only other possibility is that its your group security policy which is causing the problem. Do you have local admin rights on your PC, that might cause this issue? If you do not have local admin do you have a colleague who does so that he can see if that’s the issue. Failing that its possible your download got corrupted, the binary should be 919 Kb.

If we get this working and it does what I need. I can get my company to fork over a $$ donation. Looking forward to using your product.

Still no luck. I am at work right now trying to install it on my work PC and still having the same results. My AV is f-protect and is currently dissabled.

I tried

2) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[your account name]\Local Settings\Temp
3) Use the windows search tool to locate files named Feed.html under this directory.

but i don’t have any file named feed.html in the temp or any of it’s sub dir’s.

Any Idea’s

This sounds like the initial unpacking of the application’s temporary files has failed, this would be caused by either strict account security policy or an overactive virus scanner. Try this :
1) Close the reader.
2) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[your account name]\Local Settings\Temp
3) Use the windows search tool to locate files named Feed.html under this directory.
4) These will be under a directory of the format something like {4CE71B88-E3E4-45DC-90AA-F369A4B7C4A1}/AppData
5) Delete this funny named directory and everything below it.
6) Restart the News Junkie widget.

If this doesn’t work, try the procedure with your virus scanner off for a moment. Let me know if this fixes your problem.

Love the RSS reader, well I think i will. I can’t seem to get any feeds to show up. I have jave enabled in ie7. I have deleted the stardock folder and re ran the app. Still nothing , the reader comes up but it is blank. If i click reload to load http://news.google.com/?output=rss it just give the page cannot be displayed error. Any ideas?
